STORM SUMMARY 12-16-2013

There were actually two system that moved through on 12-16. One system produced an area of light snow and snow showers from Rockford to Kankakee. The snow was west and south of this line. The main area of snow was south of North Avenue. The activity was most pronounced over Kendall, Will and extreme southern Cook Counties and it included Morris and Kankakee. This was mainly a salting evening but there were some 1-2 totals along and south of the I80 corridor for the folks who work South.

An upper level feature advanced through the area late afternoon and evening producing another period of light snow and snow showers. This system was the opposite of the am one. This time areas north of I90 received the bulk of the snow and the amounts really dropped off down towards the I80 corridor. This snow moved through mainly between 2pm and 7pm there were some 1-2 inch totals McHenry and Lake Counties with this feature.

Totals snowfall the day at ORD was .7 with pretty all of it coming in the second period. Rockford had some snow both periods and for the day they ended up with an inch. Romeoville had 1.2 inches and again that was mostly in the morning.
