STORM SUMMARY 1-26-14

A fast moving clipper type system produced a fairly short duration snowfall to the
Area during the early morning hours. Snow began 2-3:30am and was pretty much
Out of the area around 8am. This snow produced on the average 2-4 inches of
Snow. Meanwhile there was another band of light snow and snow showers that
Moved through between 5-9pm. This second batch produced <1” although, with
Winds gusting 40-50mph it was pretty hard to determine how much snow actually
Fell during the second period because of all of the blowing and drifting snow.
The strong winds created whiteout conditions in the open areas between
8-11pm when the strongest winds occurred. Everyone had to keep pushing back
Snow drifts from the evening hours and even on into the afternoon hours on 1-27.
The official snowfall at O’Hare was 2.4 inches, Rockford 3.0 and Romeoville 3.3”
