STORM SUMMARY 12-28-12

Areas of light snow moved into the area between 7-9am till 10-11am producing
Amounts under an inch. There was a lull in the activity from late morning until
Mid afternoon when some patchy freezing drizzle and flurries developed. This activity remained quite patchy rest of the day and night. It was most prevalent around Rockford. Some surfaces just got wet in the morning but salting was required on many surfaces as temperatures were in the 30-32 range all day. Authorities throughout the area reported some slick surfaces. Snowfall covered the entire area with amounts ranging from ¼ to ¾ of an inch all areas. Because this snow overlapped snowfall that also occurred early the next day, I don’t have many specific totals for the region. I will save that for the totals on 12-29. I just list a few totals below for 12-28 which gives on a good idea That the amounts were under an inch.

STORM SUMMARY 12-29-12
Light flurries occurred off an on between midnight and 4am. This area intensified towards sunrise into a pretty good area of light to moderate between 4-6am over the local area. The back edge of the accumulating snow cleared Rockford 5-6am and the Chicago area between 7-9am. Some flurries lingered into the early afternoon period. Temperatures remained between 30-32 degrees though 6-7am before falling to 26-28 degrees after 6-7am. Temperatures remained there until evening. The colder temperatures allowed surfaces to receive accumulating snow early morning Sat. Again most areas were under an inch. Salting was needed area wide. Some of the totals below may include some snowfall from the 28th.
