A freezing rain advisory began at 5pm and ran till 89am on 11-12. Area of rain
And isolated thunderstorms moved through the area between 5and 8pm. This was Followed by drizzle for areas south of I90 and freezing drizzle north from 9pm
through midnight. Temperatures were in the 40s prior to the rainfall and fell below 32 north of I90 between 7-8pm and below 32 elsewhere between 9-11pm. rainfall amounts averaged between 1/0 and 3/10 of an inch. This water froze on surfaces as temperatures fell below 32. Freezing drizzle occurred at times overnight before a band of freezing rain, sleet and snow moved back over the area between 4:30 and 6am. This 2nd wave missed Rockford, most of DeKalb County, McHenry County. The combination of light snow, sleet and freezing rain and refreezing of standing water produced ice skating rinks throughout the area. Some areas had snow and sleet accumulation around ¼ of an inch resulting in ice covered streets for the morning commute on 1-12. All areas had icing as temps fell from 32 at midnight to 22 by dawn. Multiple applications of salt was required on 1-11 and 1-12 ORD had .2 snow and sleet combined, Rockford had trace snow but .06 rain and freezing rain, Romeoville .1 snow and sleet
